About our Church

Our Lady of La Vang Church in Norfolk was founded in 1993 by the Vietnamese community of Hampton Roads. We started very small and built the church with our own hands, because it was very important to us that our children and fellow Catholics have a place to worship God and hear His Word. Our congregation has grown quickly and we now have over 300 families in our parish. We are currently raising funds to build a new Catholic church and cultural center.

Help us Build our New Place of Worship!

The God of heaven Himself will help us succeed; therefore, we will arise and build! We will trust His Word and believe in the Sovereign Lord who always keeps His promises. Nehemiah 2:20

The Heavenly Father has blessed us with a growing congregation and the vision of a new worship building large enough to hold a Catholic Church and Vietnamese Cultural Center. If you are called to be a servant leader, please contribute what you can to our building fund in His name.

Our Lady of La Vang

On Aug. 17, 1798, King Cảnh Thịnh issued an edict ordering the immediate execution of all Catholics in his realm. As persecution erupted, a group of Catholic refugees from neighboring villages escaped into the jungles of La Vang. One night, a beautiful and compassionate countenance appeared to the frightened and starving refugees by a huge, old tree as they were praying for deliverance from their persecutors and protection from wild beasts. Calling herself the "Blessed Mother" (Ðứ Mẹ ), she comforted and encouraged them to keep their faith in Jesus Christ, taught them how to collect herbs in the forest as medicine, and promised to intercede to her Son on their behalf.
